A prospect that we’ll be keeping a close eye on in the upcoming season will be Merrillville, Ind., interior lineman Dexter Larimore. Larimore is one of three D-1 prospects playing for the Pirates. James Aldridge (Notre Dame) and Brandon Jordan (Illinois) have already made their verbal commitments.
“I have an offer from
Ball State
,”
Dexter Larimore
said.
“I get hand-written letters from
Indiana
on a daily basis. I’m also getting hand-written mail from
Michigan
,
Michigan State
,
Purdue
and
Illinois
.
“My favorites right now are Michigan, Michigan State,
Ohio State
,
Notre Dame
, Purdue, Illinois and Indiana.”
We asked Merrillville head coach Jeff Yelton what makes Larimore one of the top prospects in the Midwest.
“I think first and foremost it’s his strength.” Coach Yelton said. “Dexter is extremely strong. He’s also an outstanding wrestler and he finished 2nd in the heavyweight division the past two years. Dexter will be one of the top heavyweight wrestlers in the country next year.
“With Dexter’s wrestling ability, it shows college recruiters his balance and strength. Dexter is also the only player on my team playing on both sides of the football.
“He (Larimore) could play offense or defense in college but I see him being a 3-technique, defensive tackle, at the next level.”
Larimore had 15 tackles for loss and 8 sacks as a junior. He plans on camping this summer at Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Purdue, Illinois and Indiana.
Northwestern
and
Nebraska
are also possibilities.
