The Boilers stifling defense, red hot shooting, and vicious run to start the game led to an easy, cruise-control win over Davidson.
After falling to
Oklahoma
and
Duke
, the
Purdue
Boilermakers had themselves a 0-2 record against quality opponents. That all changed Saturday afternoon in Indianapolis, when the Boilers crushed the 22nd ranked Wildcats of Davidson.
After starting abysmally against Duke, the Boilers came out firing on every cylinder. Seven minutes into the game, the Boilers had built a commanding 21-0 lead over the Cats.
Robbie Hummel
was the star of the show, going 6-11 from the floor, including 2-4 from beyond the arc, for a stellar 18 point performance. Capping off his double-double were 14 rebounds, and he also dished 4 assists. The rest of the Boilers came with solid performances as well.
Keaton Grant
and
JaJuan Johnson
both chipped in 15 and 14 points respectively. Purdue also scorched the net from deep, shooting an eye popping 61% from three point land.
The Boilers hounding defense was also key in the romp.
Stephen Curry
, the nations leading scorer, came into the game averaging a blistering 31.9 points per game. On this night, he was held to just 13 points on 5-26 shooting.
The win over Davidson gives the Boilers their first quality win of the season, which will undoubtedly be part of their resume come March and tournament selection time.
Up next for the Boilers are the Mastodons of IPFW on Monday, Dec. 22nd. On Sunday, Dec. 28th, they’ll finish out the last out-of-conference game against Valparaiso before opening Big Ten play against
Illinois
on Dec. 30th.
