Supo Sanni, a 6-foot-4, 190-pound, athlete, from Homewood-Flossmor high in Flossmor, Ill., is going to be a prospect that several college recruiters will keep a close eye on in 2007. Sanni is a terrific athlete that flashes on offense and on defense. We caught up with Sanni to talk about his early recruitment.
“I thought I had a good year last year,”
Supo Sanni
said. “I mean, we played good teams all year. We played Bolingbrook and
Dale Martin
(Louisville) and I got a good lick on him. That gave me the confidence I needed to know I could play at the highest level.”
Sanni is also a standout basketball player and we asked him which sport has his heart and if he wants to play both sports in college.
“Oh, it’s football definitely,” said Sanni. “I mean, I like basketball and all but I love football. Football is definitely the way to go for me.”
Sanni played receiver and safety last year for the Vikings. We asked Supo where the college recruiters see him playing at the next level.
“I’m being recruited as both a safety and as a receiver.” Sanni said. “Some schools have mentioned linebacker and it doesn’t really matter to me where I play, I just want to be on the field.”
Former Homewood-Flossmoor head coach Tom Bailey had this to add about Sanni’s talents.
“Supo (Sanni) is a top five talent in the state of
Illinois
for football,” Bailey said.
“Supo is also one of the best basketball players in the state. When Supo wants to turn it on, he looks like (Ted) Ginn Jr. from
Ohio State
. What Supo needs to work on is his consistency. You’re talking about a young man with a tremendous upside.”
We asked Sanni to talk about his scholarship offers and his current list of early favorites.
“Illinois,
Michigan State
and
Toledo
have all offered me a scholarship.” Sanni said.
“My favorites are
Notre Dame
,
Wisconsin
,
Michigan
State,
Purdue
, Illinois,
Minnesota
and Michigan. I’m still wide open.
Virginia
is also a school I’m looking at. It’s too early for me to name a leader.
“I’m going to be very busy this summer also. I have AAU Nationals coming up and I’ll be going to a few football camps.”
Sanni had 417 receiving yards in 2006. Defensively, Suppo racked up 52 solo tackles and 2 interceptions.
