The Ben Davis Giants in Indianapolis, Indiana have had some good quarterback prospects in the past. James Banks signed with Tennessee a few years back and now Tom Allen has another signal caller that could garner national attention. MarQueis Gray, a 6-foot-4, 215-pounder, has several scholarship offers under his belt and he’s looking for more.
“I have scholarship offers from
Minnesota
,
Illinois
,
Kentucky
,
Indiana
,
Purdue
,
Michigan State
,
Cincinnati
and
Central Michigan
,”
MarQueis Gray
said.
“My favorites are
Ohio State
,
Louisville
, Michigan, Minnesota, Indiana, Cincinnati and
West Virginia
.”
Why didn’t Purdue make Gray’s short-list at this time?
“I’d like to play quarterback and right now Purdue is recruiting me as an athlete.” Gray explained.
“Purdue isn’t completely out of it and things could change. I’m still very open and I don’t want to close the door on any school that has an interest in me.”
Ben Davis head coach Tom Allen had this to say about his top D-1 prospect.
“MarQueis shows great poise,” Allen said. “He has a strong arm and MarQueis is getting better at reading defenses and understanding coverage.
"In my opinion, MarQueis is a better quarterback than
James Banks
was for us. Banks was probably a better overall athlete but MarQueis is a better quarterback than James was and he has a stronger arm.”
Gray threw for 1,100 yards and 13 touchdowns as a junior. He rushed for 603 yards and scored 7 touchdowns as well. MarQueis was named all-state in 2006.
We asked Gray what his summer plans were and if he’ll be camping with any schools?
“I could possibly be going to Ohio State for camp but I’m not 100% sure on that.” Gray said.
Gray told Scout.com that he grew up a huge fan of both Ohio State and Miami, Fla.
