Arkansas assistant Johnson to join Purdue

Arkansas assistant Taver Johnson will join Purdue as defensive backs coach.

Just one week after Signing Day, Darrell Hazell has a new addition coming to Purdue.

Arkansas assistant Taver Johnson will become the Boilermakers' new defensive backs coach, a source confirmed. No official announcement has been made, and the deal has not yet been finalized.

Johnson will replace Jon Heacock, who left to become Toledo's defensive coordinator after one year in West Lafayette.

Johnson spent two years at Arkansas with first-year head coach Bret Bielema, mentoring a young Razorbacks cornerback group. Before that, he spent a year coaching the linebackers.

Johnson's connection to Hazell comes from coaching at Ohio State, where he spent five years on the Buckeyes' staff coaching their cornerbacks. He has heavy Midwest ties, similar to Heacock.

At Ohio State, Johnson was part of the program's 50-15 record and four consecutive Big Ten titles.

Boiler Sports Report will have a full story on Johnson's addition to the Purdue program.
