Boilermakers bounce Wildcats

Two weeks later, Purdue got back at Northwestern, earning a 90-65 win.

WEST LAFAYETTE -- If I would of told you that Northwestern would hold K.K. Houser and Courtney Moses to under 10 points apiece and Purdue would win by 25, would you believe me? Well, it happened on Thursday and Purdue had other players step up.

The Boilermakers looked like the superior team and dominated the Wildcats, 90-65.

Purdue got rolling early and often on the offensive side of the ball. The post play from the Boilermakers was excellent, and when they are making those shots, Purdue is one tough team to beat.

The Boilermakers got contributions from every post player on the team. Redmon had nine points and nine boards, Bays finished with 14 points and seven rebounds, but the star of the night was no doubt Liza Clemons. She had 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting and 10 rebounds. This was Bays’ second career double-double, but she was not surprised by Clemons’ performance tonight.

“Liza played her game, she is a beast down low and defiantly carried us today,” Bays said.

The final score doesn’t indicate it, but Northwestern made a few runs at cutting down the Boilermakers lead. The Wildcats got the lead down to 58-49 with 11:28 to go in the game. What was good to see from Purdue was it never let the score get any closer than that, offering an answer when the Wildcats made a mini-run.

Purdue coach Sharon Versyp was very happy to see that from her team today.

“We know they are going to make a run, we just have to change it and you have to play just as intense in every possession,” Versyp said.

Another quality win for this Boilermaker team. A game like this just shows the how much potential Purdue has.

Purdue can win and many different ways and have some other people carry the team besides Houser and Moses.
