Boiler Sports Report's Chris Emma and Madeline Plesac look ahead to Purdue's contest with Wisconsin…
Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany is hoping to end these sleepy games against FCS foes. Hopefully, the rest of college football catches on. Even so, I managed to find eight games to pick for this week. Here we go!
CE: Clemson 45, NC State 21
-- Dave Doeren could make something of that NC State program, but it will take a few years. Clemson is just too powerful for the Wolfpack to contain. Also, bonus points for me not referencing "The Hangover" while discussing the Wolfpack. Those jokes are getting old.
CE: Notre Dame 31, Michigan State 27
-- Was Purdue just really good last Saturday, or is Notre Dame not very good? The true Fighting Irish could be revealed in a home matchup with a tricky Spartans team. I stand by my belief that Notre Dame is a BCS-caliber team.
CE: Florida 41, Tennessee 21
-- The good news for Vols fans is that their future appears bright under Butch Jones. The bad news is that Florida is likely to score a big victory on Saturday.
CE: Stanford 28, Arizona State 20
-- The Cardinal make for a nice title game pick. A win over the Sun Devils will only help Stanford's case. David Shaw has an impressive squad that will get the win in Palo Alto.
CE: Indiana 37, Missouri 34
-- I mean, I guess this would technically count as Indiana beating an SEC team. This is also the first time I've picked the Hoosiers to win. A couple big milestones on the line with this one.
CE: LSU 45, Auburn 17
-- This is one of your primetime games for Saturday's slate. This may be a good night to go see a movie. Les Miles and crew are just too much for Auburn to handle.
Emma's record picking Purdue games: 3-0
Purdue at No. 24 Wisconsin (-24)
CE: Wisconsin 41, Purdue 14
-- Camp Randall Stadium is one of the toughest places to play in all of college football—a true early-season test for this young Purdue team. This game will be a tough one for the Boilermakers.
The Badgers' two-headed attack of James White and Melvin Gordon will cause problems for Purdue's defense, while the Boilermakers' offense could have some issues. For Purdue to hang around in this game, it must execute on offense and hold the Badgers' rushing attack steady. I just don't see it happening.
NFL Bonus Pick
Kansas City at Philadelphia (-3)
CE: Eagles 31, Chiefs 16
-- First, a moment to explain how much I love Chip Kelly's offense. It's a thing of beauty, watching how Mike Vick utilizes LeSean McCoy and his slew of receivers. I hope these first two games haven't been a fluke, because it's so much fun to watch. Give me the Eagles spoiling Andy Reid's return to Philadelphia. At least he'll be able to leave Philadelphia after the game.
