First, a name change. Because calling the predictions “fearless” is just cliché and lame. If these picks were really fearless, I’d bet my dog on them.
It should be a solid weekend of games, with the showdown in College Station and the big battle in West Lafayette. There is certainly potential for some big upsets. It’s time to go on the record and bring out my week three picks, filled with a few upsets and some scares for a few top teams. And another Iowa loss.
Emma’s Record: 13-3
No. 24 TCU (-3) at Texas Tech
CE: Texas Tech 27, TCU 21
-- Kliff Kingsbury made a freshman walk-on into the new star in Texas Tech’s air raid. He’s college football Brad Stevens! What’s not to love? Give me Kliff, Baker Mayfield and the Red Raiders to earn a big home win.
Iowa(-2.5) at Iowa State
CE: Iowa State 18, Iowa 11
-- The token eighth game, just to keep it even. It should be a sleeper, but I just enjoy picking against Iowa. The Cyclones hold off their in-state rivals and win back that weird trophy.
No. 16 UCLA at No. 23 Nebraska (-4.5)
CE: Nebraska 34, UCLA 30
-- Maybe Bo Pelini might have something in this team after all. We’ll find out on Saturday in Lincoln. Give me the Cornhuskers to beat the Bruins.
No. 19 Washington (-10) at Illinois (at Solider Field)
CE: Washington 41, Illinois 24
-- The Beckman bubble pops along Chicago’s lakefront. A talented Washington team beats the Fighting Illini in their Chicago showcase game. And, no, Illinois is not Chicago's Big Ten team.
No. 20 Wisconsin (-5.5) at Arizona State
CE: Arizona State 23, Wisconsin 20
-- I believe in Gary Anderson, but this will be the one that got away from Wisconsin. Weird things happen in these late west coast games. And Taylor Kelly has been rock solid for the Sun Devils.
No. 4 Ohio State (-16) at California
CE: Ohio State 35, California 27
-- I’m tempted to pick Cal. Sure, Ohio State is Ohio State, but I could see freshman slinger Jared Goff giving the Buckeyes some problems. But I’ll wimp out on this and take Urban Meyer’s team.
No. 1 Alabama (-8) at No. 6 Texas A&M
CE: Alabama 34, Texas A&M 28
-- Damn, this will be fun. So much hype, so much Bama, so much Johnny. But the machine that is Nick Saban’s team will be too much for last year’s Heisman winner.
Emma's record picking Purdue games: 2-0
No. 21 Notre Dame (-20.5) at Purdue
CE: Notre Dame 27, Purdue 10
-- The atmosphere at Ross-Ade Stadium will be electric. The stadium will be rocking as the rival Fighting Irish come to town.
Throughout the first half, this one will go back and forth. Purdue will hang tough, but Notre Dame will find its groove in the second half and pull away.
