Ranking, Position: 3-Star Tight End
School: Westerville-South (OH) High School
Height, Weight: 6-foot-5, 228 pounds
Bio— Long is the centerpiece of an offense which had great success last season. He also made his mark on the other side of the ball, working as a defensive end. While most schools see him as a tight end, he could also play at defensive end if so desired.
Scouting Report— There is plenty to like about Darryl Long's game. He has the build you would want in a tight end—6-foot-5 and 228 pounds—but he moves like a receiver. Long is a threat in any passing attack with his size and consistent hands. He is also dangerous in the open field. From a Purdue perspective, Long would be a great weapon in John Shoop's offense, working primarily with his hand in the ground then creating mismatches in the second level.
Quote to note— "I'll look at who my position coach will be, how long I'll be there, my chances of getting on the field and the academic standings." --Darryl Long, on what he'll use to evaluate his schools.
Why it could be Purdue—The Boilermakers have made it clear to Long that he is a priority in their recruiting plans. Linebackers coach Marcus Freeman has led a strong recruitment of Long, the primary reason why Purdue has a good chance at landing his services.
Prediction—All indications seem to show Long going to either Kentucky or Louisville. The tight end visited the two schools for their spring games and left feeling confident about both as an option. My best guess is that Long becomes a Kentucky Wildcat.
